Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys Bio

Dallas Cowboys, a National Football Conference (NFC) member team of the National Football League based in Dallas, Texas (NFL). In their illustrious career, the Cowboys have five Super Bowl titles and eight conference championships to their credit.

Under the leadership of head coach Tom Landry, the Cowboys became an NFL franchise in 1960 after being an expansion team. The Cowboys quickly rose to the top of the NFL, making the playoffs in 17 of the 18 seasons between 1966 and 1983 despite having a losing record in each of their first five seasons. Thanksgiving Day home games, which the Cowboys began hosting with the Detroit Lions in 1966, helped boost the team’s national profile.

Dallas made it to the NFL championship game in 1967 but fell to the Green Bay Packers in an event remembered as the “Ice Bowl” because of the game’s record-low on-field temperature (13 °F [25 °C]). In 1969, the Cowboys acquired future Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach, who helped turn the team into a consistent title contender. The Cowboys won five NFC titles and two Super Bowls (1972 and 1978) under Staubach’s leadership, earning the moniker “America’s team.” The successful franchise also featured scantily clad cheerleaders who were both sex symbols and targets of feminist derision.

Defensive tackles Bob Lilly and Randy White, wide receiver Bob Hayes, cornerback Mel Renfro, and running back Tony Dorsett were all standouts during the Landry era.

Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989 and promptly fired coach Tom Landry, angering many of the team’s diehard fans who had grown to love him over the course of his 28 years with the team. However, the Cowboys’ draught record from 1988 to 1990, which included future Hall of Famers Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman, and Emmitt Smith, helped alleviate the situation. Cowboys of the 1990s dominated the NFL for most of the decade, winning three Super Bowls in a row.

As the new decade began, the team’s great players began to retire or go on to other teams. Even though the Cowboys occasionally made the playoffs, the team didn’t win a playoff game until 2010, when quarterback Tony Romo led the team to an opening-round playoff victory over the Philadelphia Eagles after leading the Cowboys to a division title in 2009. The Cowboys have three consecutively finished with an 8–8 record after losing to a division foe in their final regular-season game to lose out on a postseason berth starting in 2011.

A 16-game regular-season schedule and a division title were earned by the Cowboys in 2014 before they lost their second playoff game and the season after. They also won 12 games that year, including all eight of their road games, becoming the sixth NFL team to do it. When Tony Romo was injured in the preseason two years later, the Cowboys turned to rookie Dak Prescott to take over as the starting quarterback.

With the help of running back and fellow first-year phenom Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys went 13–3, but they lost their first postseason game. The Cowboys missed the playoffs in 2017, but returned the following year, winning their first game but falling short in the divisional round of play-off play-offs.

As a result of his sluggish start and ponderous running style, Bob Hayes became known as “Bullet” Bob Hayes (born December 20, 1942, in Jacksonville, Florida, U.S.—died September 18, 2002, in Jacksonville), an American sprinter who was as fast as any other athlete in history. His other passion was American football, and he excelled at it as well.

Hayes got his start in running when he was just a kid when he ran alongside his boxing-training brother Ernest. Hayes was a football running back and sprinter at Jacksonville’s Matthew W. Gilbert High School and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (Tallahassee) in the 1960s and ’60s. In 1963, he set a 100-yard dash world record with a time of 9.1 seconds.

He won a gold medal and a world record in the 100-meter dash at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (10.0 seconds). As the anchor of the 4 x 100-meter relay squad, he also earned a gold medal. When Hayes took over the baton and won the race by 3 meters, it was a world record performance (39.0 seconds). He covered his leg in an estimated 8.6 seconds.
