Over the course of his four-decade-long career, he has shared the stage with dozens of famous musicians. He was born in Sunderland, UK in 1948 and began studying classical piano in 1954. His father inspired him to pursue music and exposed him to jazz and classical. At the tender age of 13, Airey joined his first jazz group. Sometime about this time, he became interested in music and learned to play the guitar and the piano.
