Mac DeMarco is a singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Canada. Mac was born in British Columbia and raised in Alberta and since school has been a member of various bands. None of the bands, however, was serious about a musical career. After high school in 2008, Mac came to Vancouver and finally began to make music alone. He spent a year recording an EP named ‘Heat Wave,’ a collection of the best songs he’d made as a solo artist. Mac was also interested in other art aspects and produced various trippy music videos while “Heat Wave” was constantly successful. He was signed with a record label called ‘Captured Tracks’ in early 2012. The success of the mini-LP ‘Rock and Roll Night Club’ cleared the door for his debut album, ‘2’ to be released in 2012. Two further albums were issued by Mac, ‘Salad Days’ and ‘This Old Dog.’ Mac’s on-stage and eccentricities on different public venues are also known.

Mac DeMarco was born on April 30, 1990 in Duncan, British Columbia, Vernor Winfield MacBriare Smith IV. Soon after he was born, Mac spent the rest of his adolescence in Edmonton, Alberta. His father left home when he was 5 years old. He rarely encountered Mac.
He had a family with strong musical heritage. His grandmother was a popular singer of opera, and his grandfather was a performer of saxophones. In his younger days, his mother and his aunt were also temporarily interested in music. Mac was so heavily affected by music as he grew up.
However, Mac resisted the temptation for a long time to become a musician. He loved music but never aspired till he was a teenager to become a musician. It was largely to impress girls when he started performing music in school. Later he took music a bit more seriously and joined a couple high school bands.

First, he became an amateur school group called ‘Meat Cleavers,’ a ‘jock-rock band,’ according to Mac. He subsequently joined another band, ‘Sound of Love,’ focusing on music from R&B. The members were again amateur and played music only to be popular in school with the females. Mac then kept joining several more indie bands, but none fit him.

Mac then decided to compose music independently and as part of his ‘Makeout Videotape’ project he started distributing his own music. Most of the songs he made wasn’t popular. In 2008, Mac finished from high school and went to Vancouver to focus on his music.

Vancouver had a lively music scene. Mac began to make music from his apartment. From the outset Mac had an autonomous approach to music and wanted to achieve something truly exceptional. The genre with which he came was known as “garage noise/punk rock.” Soon he launched his debut project, “Heat Wave,” which he had produced since moving to Vancouver, a collection of tracks.

In this initial phase, Mac released several EPs like ‘Eating Like a Kid,’ ‘Bossa Yeye’ and ‘Weird Meats EP.’ He could not, however, achieve as much success as he wanted. The album ‘Heat Wave’ came out in 2009. Initially, Mac released almost 500 record CDs, almost instantly sold out. Mac then picked the less travelled path and shot psychedelic videos to accompany the song.

He debuted with local musicians and record labels, “Heat Wave.” The signatories to the label ‘Unfamiliar Records’ Alex Calder and Jen Clement asked Mac to collaborate. He also toured briefly with a band called ‘Japandroids.’ Mac travelled to Montreal after dedicating two years to his newly founded associations to improve his profession as a musician. But Mac was unable to obtain excellent prospects and did a lot of unusual tasks to meet ends throughout the earliest phases of his struggle. He worked with a road-paving team and also took part in various medical tests.

His breakthrough came in early 2012, when he was offered a record deal by an independent company called “Captured Tracks.” Mac had a Mini-LP titled ‘Rock and Roll Night Club’ about the same time. He tried a lot with his approach and the four-long CD had some mild tunes and sketches.

The success of the record provided Mac sufficient confidence to continue his first full-length album, ‘2.’ It was an instant success. ‘Pitchfork’ was awarded the ‘Best New Music’ CD. One of the songs on the album ‘Moving Like Mike’ was purchased for one of their ads by the US retail company ‘Target.’

Mac has been touring with his CD for the rest of 2013. At the beginning of 2014, Mac announced their second studio album, ‘Salad Days.’ The album was released in April and received harsh criticism when it was released. The album debuted on the ‘Billboard 200’ chart at the 30th place. After the record was released, Mac headed off on a tour of South America, Europe and North America.

Mac revealed in April 2015 that he was working on a mini-album called “Another One.” The record came out in August. It was a great change from the regular Mac style and included love tunes. The LP was ranked ‘Still in Rock’ as the third greatest of 2015.

Mac published an experimental album in July 2015 with purely instrumental music. The album was named ‘Some Other Ones’ with nine tracks. He termed it a “BBQ Soundtrack” and found several odd ways to advertise it. Mac announced their third studio album, ‘This Old Dog,’ in January 2017. He released two singles from the album on the same day. The CD was released in May and was widely applauded.

By then, Mac had gained a big fan. He appeared at several talk shows as well. He participated on the ‘YouTube’ show ‘Hot Ones’ in February 2017. In Ocovering his future projects and his connection with his father, Mac featured in ‘Charlie Rose.’

Mac DeMarco’s connection with his father was always stressed and complicated. His dad departed when Mac was very young and rarely met him in subsequent years. His father returned to his life when Mac became renowned. Mac quickly learned out, however, that his father was cancerous.
His dad has now recovered, but his relationship has not improved. Mac wrote a couple songs about his problematic father relationship. He also said said he tried not to be like his father. Mac started dating in school with Kiera McNally. They married in 2013 after a long-term relationship.

His mother, Agnes, built a huge social media following network.
