Born on April 20, 1963 in Mexico City, CDMX, Mexico, former professional race car driver and co-owner of the Fernandez Racing team Adrián Fernández Mier is a Mexican national. At the tender age of eight, Fernández began his professional career in Mexico, where he raced motocross. At the age of 15, he made the transition to cars for good and competed in his first auto race in 1981 at the “24 Hours of Mexico” race in Mexico City. From 1982 to 1984, Fernández raced in the Formula Vee Championship, where he won both the 1983 and 1984 titles. Beginning in 1984, he raced in Formula K Series events all the way through 1986. Over the course of his three years in Formula K, he never finished outside the top four.

In 1987, he participated in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch and ran in one race for the Benelux Formula Ford 1600 Championship. Beginning in 1988, he piloted a Formula Ford 1600 in the British RAC and Esso Championship series. In 1990 and 1991, he switched to the Mexican F3 Championship, where he eventually claimed victory. To take part in the 1992 Firestone Indy Lights Championship, Fernández traveled to the United States. Earning over $2 million in prize money, he placed third in the points standings after winning a record four races in his first season.
