Currently driving for GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing in the Rolex Sports Car Series is American-born race car driver Alexander Gurney (born September 4, 1974). He is the son of racing icon Dan Gurney and has won the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype drivers title twice (in 2007 and 2009). Along with his partner Jon Fogarty, he placed third in 2013. After finishing first in the Rolex 24 At Daytona in his Corvette Daytona Prototype the next year, he called it quits. In 2005, Gurney started racing in the Daytona Prototype class for GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing in the Rolex Sports Car Series. In his first season, he shared driving duties with team owner Bob Stallings and finished in the top ten four times.
In 2006, Gurney raced in the Daytona Prototype division alongside fellow ex-Atlantic Championship star Jon Fogarty and finished 11th in points with two second-place finishes. The duo won the Daytona Prototype drivers’ title in 2007 with a record-setting seven victories and 10 pole positions. In 2008, Gurney and Fogarty won one race and were in the top five in eight others, enough for second place in the championship standings. They won their second Daytona Prototype title in 2009, with the help of the No. 99 GAINSCO Riley Pontiac’s four wins and six pole positions. Gurney has twice been fourth in the Daytona Prototype points standings (in 2010 and 2011). In 2012, Fogarty and Gurney will be driving for GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing again, and the team’s Riley-Chevrolet will have new bodywork inspired by GM’s Corvette.
