Alison Pill Bio

Alison Pill was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to a family of musicians who inspired her to pursue a career in music. Her father, an Estonian-born professional engineer, is the mother of her two daughters. When Pill was in elementary school, she was a member of the Interact Program at Vaughan Road Academy, which was designed for students who were interested in a wide range of activities such as dance and music, sport, athletics, and the performing arts, among other things.

Pill was engaged to actor Jay Baruchel from 2011 until 2013, but the relationship was called off the following year. During his acceptance speech at the Genie Awards in Ottawa, Ontario, Baruchel acknowledged Pill for the first time as his fiancée, officially confirming their engagement.

A statement on Twitter from Baruchel on February 16, 2013, made reference to the couple’s separation from one another. Earlier this year, Pill revealed that she had become engaged to actor Joshua Leonard. The couple exchanged wedding vows on May 24, 2015, after a four-month romance and engagement period. Wilder, their daughter, was born on November 19, 2016, and she is the couple’s first child.

Pill decided to pursue a career in acting when she was ten years old, and she has never looked back. A member of the Toronto Children’s Chorus, she was selected to narrate one of the group’s concerts. By obtaining a part as a background actress on the television series Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, Pill’s mother sought to persuade her daughter to reconsider. However, she later decided against it.

As a guest star in an episode of the children’s television series The New Ghostwriter Mysteries, she had already made her acting debut at the age of eleven. At the age of nineteen, she was cast in two television movies and a miniseries. She also made a cameo appearance on the television series PSI Factor, and she voiced the character “Cornflower” in the animated television series “Redwall” while still in her tween years (1999-2001).

Her first feature film role was in a low-budget Canadian film called The Life Before This, which she landed in 1999. It was her first major film role overall. She then earned the role of Jacob’s older sister Marfa in the 2002 film Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang, which she landed the following year. Pill participated in a total of four more television movies before turning the age of fourteen.

After landing a small role in the film Skipped Parts, which also starred Drew Barrymore and Mischa Barton, she went on to appear in four more TV movies and features that year, including a lead role in the Canadian film The Dinosaur Hunter, which was originally intended for screening at a dinosaur museum and on a provincial education channel, but which made its way to the Burbank International Film Festival, where it won the Best Actress Award, among other accolades.

In 2002, she was offered a minor job. In 2001, she landed the role of young Lorna in the ABC-TV biopic Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows, which was based on a memoir written by Garland’s daughter, Lorna Luft, and premiered on the network in 2001. In 2002, she was cast in the ABC-TV biopic Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows, which was based on a memoir written by Garland’s daughter, Lorna Luft.

Pill also participated in the television film Midwives, which aired in the same year and in which she played the daughter of Sissy Spacek. She appeared in the independent film Pieces of April, in which she played the sister of Katie Holmes, who was played by Katie Holmes herself. On CTV-TV, Pill landed the lead role in the film Fast Food High, which follows the story of a young man who gets hired at a fast-food restaurant and strives to organize a labor union for the employees.

During the production of the film Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, which starred Lindsay Lohan in 2003, she was cast as a supporting character. Pillow began her professional stage acting career with a performance in a production of None of The Above in New York City, which served as the first entry on her resume of theatrical credits. There were other films released in the same year that earned great reviews: The Distance From Here, On the Mountain, Blackbird, and Mauritius, to name a few.

In 2006, she starred as Grace Webster in the one-season NBC drama The Book of Daniel, which aired from September to December. Following her performance in Martin McDonagh’s play The Lieutenant of Inishmore, she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play, which she ultimately won.

In order to accommodate her hectic work schedule, Pill completed her studies through a program that was specifically developed for young people working in the sector. Pill has been a resident of New York City since graduating from high school, where she hopes to pursue a career in the theatre industry. She has also starred in films such as Dan in Real Life, which was released in 2007. She has also appeared in television shows.

As campaign manager Anne Kronenberg in the Academy Award-winning film Milk, which was released in 2008, Pill plays an important supporting role. In 2009, she shared the stage with Erin Hill & her Psychedelic Harp, where she performed compositions such as “Meredith Moon,” which was inspired by the Twilight Zone, and “The Real North Pole,” a sci-fi Christmas harp that was inspired by the North Pole.

The character April was performed by Pill on the television drama In Treatment (2001-2002). As a result of the project’s postponement, neither she nor Elliot Page was able to feature in it by the time it was released in 2012. In 2009, she replaced Elliot Page as a character in Jack and Diane. In addition to the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World film series, she also appeared in the Scott Pilgrim vs. the Animation film series, where she played Kim Pine.

As Empress Maud in the miniseries The Pillars of the Earth, in which she also made an appearance, she gained fame. A number of short films have been released in which she has appeared, including Denise, in which she co-starred with Chris Messina in 2012, and Santa Baby, in which she sings and dances. In 2016, she appeared in Cover-Up, directed by Satya Bhabha and starring Jason Ritter, which will be shown at the LA Shorts Fest.

She also appeared in Woman in Deep, directed by Janicza Bravo, in which she played a woman who calls a suicide prevention hotline and is held on wait for a long time. Pill made her stage debut in a new production of Wait Until Dark, in which she played a blind lady who is forced to care for herself when her husband is killed. One of her cinematic appearances was in the post-apocalyptic thriller Snowpiercer, in which she co-starred alongside Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton and which was released in 2013.

As Maggie Jordan in Aaron Sorkin’s HBO series The Newsroom, which ran from 2012 until it was canceled in 2014, she gained international attention. Pill made an appearance in the film Cooties, which featured Elijah Wood and was directed by David O. Russell. Emma, played by Pill, is a comic book artist who aspires to be a successful professional illustrator.

She starred as Eddie Mannix’s wife in the Michael Bay-directed picture Hail, Caesar!, in which she was also a producer. Sook-Yin Lee’s Canadian independent film Octavio is Dead has cast Pill in the lead role of a ghost hunter on the pursuit of her late father’s spirit in Mexico City. The actress, who played Eva Glatt in Goon: The Last of the Enforcers, reprised her role as Glatt’s love interest from the first film, Goon, and was now married to Glatt in the sequel, Goon: The Last of the Enforcers. Pill has a recurring role as Willa Warren in the television show The Family.

Pill co-starred opposite Jessica Chastain in the 2016 thriller Miss Sloane, which was produced by EuropaCorp and released in theatres. On the American Horror Story: Cult television series, she played Ivy Mayfair-Richards, one of the storyline’s primary characters, on which she debuted in 2017.
