Bat for Lashes, as Natasha Khan (born 25 October 1979), is an English musician who performs under that moniker. Fur and Gold (2006), Two Suns (2009), The Haunted Man (2012), The Bride (2016), and Lost Girls are the five studio albums she has released (2019). She’s been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize three times. Khan is also the lead singer of Switch. This project features the musical talents of the members of the rock band Toy and producer Dan Carey. Khan’s father, the famous squash player Rehmat Khan, was born in Pakistan but raised by his English mother.

She is a member of the Khan family, the stepdaughter of Salma Agha and the half-sister of Sasha Agha (also an actress) and the granddaughter of squash player Nasrullah Khan and the niece of squash player Jahangir Khan and Torsam Khan. When she was five, her family relocated to Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire. She thought that being at her father’s and uncle Jahangir’s squash matches, where “the noise of the audience is powerful; it is ceremonial, ritualistic,” gave her a creative boost. The desire to flourish via intensified group interaction occurs for similar reasons.  Khan taught herself piano when her father abandoned the family when she was 11 years old, and the instrument provided “a medium to express emotions, to get them out.”
