American former professional tennis player Beatrix Bielik was born on November 28, 1980. On August 25, 2003, she earned a career-best WTA single ranking of 130. She represented Wake Forest University in the 2002 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships, where she won the title in the singles competition. After that, Bielik received a Wild Card into the US Open’s Main Draw. Before the start of the competition, she was rated 1,102nd in the world. The real shocker happened in the second round, however, she did pull off a first-round upset by beating the Czech Republic’s Renata Voráová, the 148th-ranked player in the world, 6-4, 6-4.
When she easily won 6-4, 6-2 against Thailand’s then-top-30 player Tamarine Tanasugarn. She eventually fell in the third round against Justine Henin, ranked sixth in the world, 7-5, 6-1. In 2002, she was honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference as the conference’s female athlete of the year. Although she was unable to make it into the French Open that year, she did make it into Wimbledon’s Main Draw, where she suffered a first-round defeat at the hands of Svetlana Kuznetsova. The US Open was another tournament she lost early in. This time it was to Patty Schnyder. Powerful serves were Bielik’s major offensive strategy.
