Frank Burns, the famed manager of a local comedy club, saw him perform after he had already spent time in a local rock band and at a community college; from there, the rest is history. Because of his fresh, original take on Korean American culture and his magnetic stage presence, Lee shot to fame as a stand-up comedian.

Lee was performing in 1995 when comedian Pauly Shore saw him and invited him to start his show in Las Vegas. Mitzi Shore, Shore’s mom, was the next person Lee met. He started hanging out at the comedy club on a regular basis and even on the road with comedian Carlos Mencia.

In 1999, he became a member of the MADtv cast, and his signature blend of painfully funny physical comedy quickly became a fan favourite. Following the cancellation of MADtv in 2009, Lee went on to guest star on shows including Curb Your Enthusiasm and Mind of Mencia.
