It was at the age of four that Gale’s father first put him in a go-kart and started him on the road to a racing career. He started racing at Mobile Motorsports Park in Kushla, Alabama when he was just five years old, in 1989, and he won five features that year. Gale participated in every main event that year, and he ended up with the track championship and 25 victories. In 1991, Gale began racing at venues other than Mobile Motorsports Park, and he won 12 main events across three different go-kart tracks. He followed his father, Bubba Gale, around the country while he raced in the NASCAR All-Pro series from 1992 to 1994. Gale resumed his go-kart career after a three-year hiatus at the Gulf Oaks Speedway in Saucier, Mississippi, where he went on to win 10 features, the track championship, and the state championship for the first time in his career. The next year, he won his second state championship and seven features at Gulf Oaks.
Over the course of the 1997 and 1998 seasons, Gale helped out on his father’s crew at Mobile International Speedway. In his second year of competition at J & J Speedway, Gale, then 14 years old, won three feature races and was named the Hardcharger Award winner in the limited modified classification. At Mobile International Speedway in the pure stock class in 2000, he made his debut as a full-bodied car racer and promptly won nine feature events, finished third in the point standings, and was named rookie of the year. In only his second year at the track, Gale won 12 feature races and the super stock track title. He competed in the Lee Fields Memorial 40-lap late model race for the first time at MIS and finished third. In the same year, Gale qualified first in a field of 42 super stock cars at the Snowball Derby in Pensacola, Florida.
