Chris Holbrook knew early on what he wanted to accomplish with his life when he was around four years old. Chris Holbrook saw firsthand his father Carl’s extensive career in auto racing. Chris, like most sons, aspired to emulate his father. It was difficult to fill such shoes. From 1954 through 1958, Carl Holbrook honed his mechanical talents in the Army’s vehicle maintenance shops. First came the tank engine in a Jeep, and then came the rest of the modifications. He was forced by the Army to get it removed.

Carl left the service and, after finding work at National Can Company, began competing in dirt-modified stock car races in the sixties. Carl acquired his 390 Mustang in 1967 because he had to go to New York City from New Jersey for business. On the weekends, he’d take the Mustang to the drag strip, and during the week, he’d use it as his daily driver. Carl was sucked in just like the rest of us. In 1968, he purchased a Cobra Jet Mustang and promptly destroyed all Super Stock competition. He was known as “Captain Cobra Jet” because of his many national titles and records.
