Dave Grohl Bio

On January 14, 1969, he was born in Warren, Ohio, to James Grohl and Virginia Grohl. After his parents split up when he was six years old, his mother raised him. At age 12, he started to learn how to play the guitar, but he didn’t like the lessons he was given. So, he taught himself how to play the guitar and began playing with his friends in bands. His cousin Tracy introduced him to punk rock. During one of his summer breaks, she took him to many punk band shows in Illinois. He saw his first live show in Chicago. It was a punk rock band from Chicago called “Naked Raygun.”

As a freshman at Virginia’s Thomas Jefferson High School, he was chosen as vice president of his class. His mother, on the other hand, sent him to “Bishop Ireton High School” in Alexandria because his drug use had hurt his grades. He stayed there for two years before he was moved to “Annandale High School” in Virginia.

Freak Baby’ was one of the local bands he played in while he was in high school. He taught himself how to play the drums in the mean time.
When he was in his late teens, he went to “The 9.30 Club” often. It was a place in Washington, D.C. where live music was played that changed his life in a big way.

At 17, he tried out for the hardcore punk band Scream and was chosen to be the drummer. He then dropped out of high school in his junior year to follow his dream. He went on a lot of tours with the band and made a lot of live CDs with them. “No More Censorship” and “Fumble” are two of the best-known ones.

In the late 1990s, when “Scream” broke up, he went to Seattle to try out for “Nirvana.” After being chosen, he joined the band full-time, and they got a deal with a big record label, DGC Records. The band then made their first album, “Nevermind,” and put it out. At the same time, he started writing his own lyrics and tunes because he didn’t like being a bad drummer in the band. Under the name Late!, he made a cassette called “Pocketwatch” and put it out on the independent label “Simple Machines” in 1992. He also played drums on the solo album by Buzz Osborne.

Before they went on tour in Europe in 1994, he and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana worked on a few demos at Seattle’s Robert Lang Studios. Later, they made a demo of the band’s last studio track, “You Know You’re Right.” Nirvana broke up when Kurt Cobain died in April 1994. In October, he went to Seattle’s “Robert Lang Studio” and played all the instruments himself to make a 15-track demo.

In 1995, he started his own rock band. Pat Smear of Nirvana, William Goldsmith, and Nate Mendel of “Sunny Day Real Estate” were all in the band. He made an album with the band. It was mostly made up of his own demos, but Rob Schnapf and Tom Rothrock gave it a professional touch. The CD finally came out as the band’s first album in July 1995, and the name “Foo Fighters” was given to the group. In 1997, he wrote several soundtracks for the movie “Touch,” in which he also played and sang all of the instruments. After the recording, he went to work on the Foo Fighters’ second album with them.

In May 1997, the “Foo Fighters” put out their second album, “The colors and the shape.” The album was a huge hit, with songs like “Ever Long” and “My Hero” that went to the top of the charts. Taylor Hawkins joined the band as a drummer, and Smear was replaced by Franz Stahl, a member of the band “Scream.” Stahl was then replaced by touring guitarist Chris Shiflett. On June 14, 2005, he put out his fifth album, “In Your Honor,” after moving from his home studio in Virginia to “Studio 606” in Los Angeles. On the album, the band worked with John Paul Jones, Josh Homme, and Norah Jones.

In June 2008, he played with Paul McCartney’s band at a show at Liverpool’s “Anfield Football Stadium.” The concert was one of the best things to happen in the English city during its year as the “European Capital of Culture.” Their seventh record, “Wasting Light,” came out on April 12, 2011. Music critics said it was hard-hitting rock with soaring choruses, and most of the reviews were good.

In 2014, “The Foo Fighters” came out with their eighth studio album, “Sonic Highways.” In 2015, he appeared on an episode of “The Muppets” where he and “Animal” had a “drum off.” In 2017, they put out their eighth studio album, “Concrete and Gold.” It was the band’s second album to go straight to the top of the Billboard 200 chart. Grohl’s solo album “Play,” which was over 22 minutes long, came out the next year. Grohl was on the 50th anniversary season of “Sesame Street” in February 2019.

In 1993, ‘Nirvana’ came out with ‘In Utero,’ which included one of his own songs, ‘Marigold,’ which was originally called ‘Colors of a Marigold. In the meantime, he copied The Beatles’ music for the movie “Backbeat.” In 1999, he recorded the third Foo Fighters album, “There is Nothing Left to Lose,” in his basement studio. “Learn to Fly,” the song it released as a single, went on to be a huge hit.

On the 2002 album “You Are Free,” he worked with Chan Marshall of the band “Cat Power.” He also helped make “Queens of the Stone Age’s” album. He quickly re-recorded his album in a studio in Virginia and put it out again under the name “One by One.” On November 23, 2002, “All My Life” by Foo Fighters was at the top of the “Billboard Modern Rock” chart.

After that, he stayed at the top for a long time. His sixth album, “Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace,” came out on September 25, 2007. Soon after, they released a CD called “Greatest Hits.” It had 16 songs, including an acoustic version of “Everlong” that had never been released before, as well as two new songs called “Wheels” and “Word Forward.” In 2009, he joined forces with Josh Homme and John Paul Jones to form the rock supergroup “Them Crooked Vultures.” The same name was used for their first album, which came out on November 16, 2009.

Dave Grohl is an American rock musician, songwriter, and player of many instruments. He started playing guitar when he was very young and taught himself most of what he knows. Later, he taught himself how to play the drums, and he says that John Banham was his biggest influence. Grohl played drums for the grunge band Nirvana from 1990 to 1994. When lead singer Kurt Cobain died in 1994, the band broke up. After Nirvana broke up unexpectedly, he went on to start his own band, Foo Fighters. He was also a drummer and back-up singer for the rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, which he helped start. Grohl also plays acoustic guitar, bass guitar, electric guitar, and piano, among other things. His band, “Foo Fighters,” has played at a number of charity events, such as “Citizen Festival,” “Concert for Sandy Relief,” etc. Grohl backs the rights of gay people.
