David Leonard Gilliland, born in the United States on April 1, 1976, competes professionally in stock car racing and also owns a racing team. Starting in 2017, he has managed the David Gilliland Racing squad, which competes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series, and CARS Tour. Semi-retired after a decade of full-time racing in the NASCAR Cup Series, he currently drives part-time for his team in the Truck Series and the ARCA Menards Series East and West. He is the father of current full-time Cup Series driver Todd Gilliland and the son of former NASCAR Cup and West Series driver Butch Gilliland, both of whom were born in Riverside, California. After following in his father’s footsteps by participating full-time in the West Series, Gilliland competed in what is now the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2006 and pulled off one of the greatest surprises in NASCAR history by winning at Kentucky Speedway.
