Canadian filmmaker, producer, writer, and animator Dean Allan DeBlois (/dblw/ d-BLWAH; born June 7, 1970) has a wide range of credits to his name. He co-wrote and co-directed the Oscar-nominated Lilo & Stitch for Walt Disney Animation Studios, and he co-wrote and co-directed the How to Train Your Dragon film trilogy for DreamWorks Animation (the first film also with Sanders). He is also known for directing the documentary Heima, which is about the Icelandic band Sigur Rós. DeBlois grew up in the Canadian town of Aylmer.

He noted that his love in comic books as a kid sparked a passion in art, creativity, and story telling that has lasted with him throughout his life. When he was a kid, he used to go to a smoking shop on the weekends because the owner would let him read comic books for free. He crammed them into his head and went home to draw.
