U.S. football legend Dick Anderson played safety for the Miami Dolphins of the AFL and NFL for a combined nine seasons in the 1960s and ’70s. He attended the University of Colorado and participated in football there. All of his professional playing career were spent with the Dolphins, who picked him in the third round of the 1968 AFL Draft. Anderson received All-American honors his senior year and finished his career with 14 interceptions, which was a school record at the time. The Dolphins selected him in the 1968 AFL Draft, the same year he was honored as the league’s best defensive rookie.

In 1972, 1973, and 1974, he was named to the Pro Bowl. From 1975 until his retirement in 1985, Anderson also served as president of the National Football League Players Association. Anderson has 34 interceptions for 792 yards and 3 touchdowns in his 9 seasons in the AFL and NFL. The 15 fumbles he was able to recover led to 100 yards and a score. He returned kickoffs for a total of 430 yards and punted nine times for a total of 335 yards for the special teams.
