At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, he started on the first row and finished in the top three. In 1999, he and co-drivers Emanuele Pirro & Frank Biela finished third overall in a factory Audi R8R. First participating at Le Mans in 1982, Theys did not return until 2002, 20 years later.
Prior to his retirement from professional racing in March of 2009, Theys raced in the European Le Mans Series with Horag Racing from 2005 to 2008, where he won the 1,000-kilometer race at Monza in the LMP2 category in 2007 and just a similar event at the Nürburgring in a Lola Judd in 2005. In 2008, he wrapped off his professional driving career by placing second in class at Spa & Silverstone, third at Monza, and first in the Michelin Energy Challenge while driving a Lista Office Porsche RS Spyder prepped by Horag Racing in the Le Mans Series’ LMP2 category. For Doran Racing in the 2007 American Le Mans Series, Theys piloted a Maserati MC 12, an effort that shocked the GT1 class by beating the factory Corvettes to take the pole position at the Petit Le Mans.
