 Bio

Zappa was the son of Adelaide Gail Sloatman, a businesswoman, and musician Frank Zappa. He was born in Los Angeles, California. He is the younger brother of four siblings: Moon Unit, his older sister, and Ahmet, his younger sister. Actress Lala Sloatman’s relative he is. His father was of Sicilian, Greek, Arab, and French origin, while his mother was of Danish, French, Irish, and Portuguese lineage.Ian Donald Calvin Euclid Zappa was Dweezil’s legal name at birth.Frank included the names of many musician pals because the hospital where he was born would not register him under the name Dweezil.

Frank gave Gail’s peculiarly curled pinky-toe the moniker “Dweezil.” Dweezil discovered his legal name was different when he was five years old, and he insisted on his nickname becoming his legal name. Gail and Frank enlisted the help of an attorney, and Dweezil became a household name. Zappa provides the opening guitar solo and sings on the tune “Genius in France” on “Weird Al” Yankovic’s eleventh studio album Poodle Hat, released in 2003. Zappa organised the “

Zappa Plays Zappa” tour in 2006. He put together a band of young musicians with the goal of introducing Frank Zappa’s music to a younger audience. Steve Vai, Napoleon Murphy Brock, and Terry Bozzio all made appearances on the tour. The tour began in May in Europe, with dates beginning in June in the United States. It resumed in the United States on October 18, 2006, after a brief hiatus. Ray White was a special guest on the 2007 tour, which began in July and ended in early December in Australia. The gigs ended with the promise that “there are so many songs we want to learn to play…” and that “see y’all next year…”, and such tours have been held every year since 2007.  Ray White quit Zappa Plays Zappa in 2009 for an unspecified reason.

Zappa worked as an MTV VJ in the 1980s, but was fired shortly after criticising the network on The Howard Stern Show. In addition to playing for other musicians, he recorded some solo recordings. Zappa is featured in the music video for Don Johnson’s top 40 hit “Heartbeat” and can be heard playing lead guitar on Fat Boys’ “Wipe Out” (1987). Winger’s cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” included him on co-lead guitar (together with Reb Beach). Eddie Van Halen was Dweezil’s favourite guitarist, and he began imitating his style. He also played Stevie in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s future film The Running Man (“Don’t touch that dial!”) and Simon in John Hughes’s brat-pack comedy Pretty in Pink (with Molly Ringwald). Zappa has been working on “What the Hell Was I Thinking?” since the early 1990s, a 75-minute piece incorporating guitar solos by dozens of notable guitarists. Since the 1990s, the project has faced several challenges and has been revised numerous times. In September 2004, Dweezil stated: ”

It’s been almost 13 years since I started tape recording it… There are maybe 35 guest guitarists on it, ranging from Brian May to Edward van Halen, Eric Johnson, Angus Young, and Malcolm Young – it’s a wild project. I’m still waiting for Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page to join me as some of my final guests.” Zappa was the voice of Ajax Duckman on the Duckman cartoon series in the mid-1990s. He also participated in the television sitcom Normal Life alongside his sister Moon Unit Zappa and former Laverne and Shirley actress Cindy Williams for a limited time. The Ben Stiller Show’s theme music (a solo from Spinal Tap’s “Break Like the Wind”) was composed and performed by him.
