Born on December 2, 1982, Erik Louis Darnell competes as a professional stock car racer in the United States. Grandson of Bay Darnell, who drove in NASCAR and USAC and made three NASCAR starts (including one for Holman Moody). Darnell used to race for Roush Fenway Racing. He joined the team in 2005 after he and David Ragan won the Discovery Channel program Roush Racing: Driver X.

At the age of 12, Darnell joined the River Valley Kart Club and started racing. In his second year of competition, he took the purple plate class championship and went on to race Allison Legacy Series cars once he outgrew go karts. Erik finished third in the super late models standings at Illiana Motor Speedway in his rookie season. With the help of his victory over the state’s top super late model racers, Erik took home the 2003 Wisconsin Challenge Series title. His five victories were a record at the time. At Lake Geneva Raceway in 2004, he established a new record for super late models.
