Bobsled designer and racer Geoff Bodine come from the United States. Of the three Bodine brothers, he is the eldest. Bodine’s present residence is in West Melbourne, Florida. Bodine’s father and grandparents, Eli Bodine Jr. and Sr. established Chemung Speedrome a year after he was born, thus his future in racing appeared to be set in stone from the get-go. When he was five years old, he started coming to this track to learn how to race micro-midgets. At the age of 15, he had the overwhelming want to run, so he dressed as a woman and competed in a Powderpuff Division Race. From No. 35 to No. 36 for Tommy Baldwin Racing in the Sprint Cup Series in 2011, he had the Luke & Associates sponsorship.
In 1992, Bodine teamed up with his buddy and Chassis Dynamics chassis maker Bob Cuneo to form Bo-Dyn Bobsleds. The USA Bobsled Project was started by Bodine so that American bobsledders would have a better chance of winning. U.S. National Team sleds were first used in competition in 1994. The United States bobsled team won three medals on Bo-Dyn sleds in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and in 2010, American bobsledder Steven Holcomb piloting a Bo-Dyn sled dubbed “Night Train” won gold at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. Every year from 2006-2010, the US bobsled team and NASCAR drivers have participated in a charity run at the Lake Placid, New York track to generate money for the sled project. Both Todd Bodine and Tony Stewart have competed in the past.
