The American trumpet player Herb Alpert (born March 31, 1935) is most known for his work with the Tijuana Brass in the 1960s. It was also during this decade that he, together with Jerry Moss, established A&M Records. Five of Alpert’s albums have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 list, and he has 14 platinum and 15 gold discs to show for his recording efforts. With his vocal performance of “This Guy’s in Love with You” in 1968 and his instrumental performance of the same song in 1969, Alpert has the unique distinction of being the only artist to ever reach the top spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 twice (“Rise”, 1979).
