Directing two of John Hughes’ most famous scripts, Pretty in Pink and Some Sort of Wonderful, American film and television director Howard Deutch (born September 14, 1950) has worked extensively with Hughes. As of 2011, he has mostly directed episodes of television shows including Getting On and True Blood. Being from New York, Deutch has always called the Big Apple home. His mother, Pamela (a former Wolkowitz), and father, Murray Deutch, both in the music industry. Robert Walden, the actor, is his mother’s brother.
Deutch comes from a Jewish background. After George W. Hewlett High School, he moved on to Ohio State University. He got his start in the industry working in the advertising division of United Artists Records, where his father was president.
