American country music singer and songwriter Jeffery Wayne Bates was born on September 19, 1963. Bates’ first album, Rainbow Man, was released in May of 2003 after he signed with RCA Nashville in late 2002. His second album, Leave the Light On, was out on RCA in 2005. He departed RCA in 2006. In 2008, Jeff Bates released a follow-up on the indie label Black River Entertainment, which included the same sound as this album. Only three of the seven songs from Bates’ two RCA albums, “The Love Song” (his highest at No. 8), “I Wanna Make You Cry,” and “Long, Slow Kisses,” made the top 40 on the Billboard country charts. Bates had already co-written the hit track “What a Memory” by Tracy Lawrence in 2002 before she signed with a record company.
Bates released his first single, “The Love Song,” in December 2002, after signing with RCA Records Nashville in 2003. The first of three singles from his first album, Rainbow Man, which also included the Top 47 hit “Rainbow Man” and the Top 23 hit “I Wanna Make You Cry,” reached No. 8 on the Billboard country charts. Bates collaborated with David Malloy, Kenny Beard, and Scott Hendricks to create the record. His first album’s track, “Long, Slow Kisses,” was re-released as his fourth single. This remake peaked at No. 17 on the charts, becoming his third Top 40 success overall. The song was the first of four singles released in support of his second studio album, Leave the Light On.
