Former NFL linebacker Roger John Anderson played for the Green Bay Packers for 12 seasons (1978-1989) in the United States’ National Football League (NFL). Anderson, a native of Waukesha, Wisconsin, was named the Packers’ most valuable defensive player for three straight seasons. The Packers’ all-time leader in tackles and co-leader in interceptions by a linebacker, he finished his career tied with Ray Nitschke. The Green Bay Packers honored Anderson with a spot in their Hall of Fame in 1996, and he was also chosen to the NFL’s 1980s All-Decade Team as a second-team performer.
From 1974 through 1977, Anderson was a linebacker and defensive end for the University of Michigan Wolverines football team. He was voted to the first team of the Big Ten Conference in 1976 and the first team of the United States in 1977. He started working as Carroll University’s linebackers coach in 2009. Anderson ended up spending 12 seasons (1978–1989) with the Packers, starting 140 of the games at linebacker. Three years in a row, Anderson was voted the Packers’ most important defensive player.
