Robert Jonathan Demme was an American director who was born on February 22, 1944 and passed away on April 26, 2017. He was pronounced /dmi/ DEM-ee. Beginning his career as an assistant to the B-movie producer Roger Corman, Jonathan Demme made his directorial debut with the women-in-prison film Caged Heat in 1974.
