Lucas Auer, an Austrian race car driver born on September 11, 1994, in Tyrol, competes for BMW Team RMR in the 2020 DMSB Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Championship. Having raced for Mercedes till the end of 2018, Auer is one of a handful of drivers to return to the DTM in 2020 through the Formula 3 Euro Series. After signing with Mercedes as one of their young drivers in 2014, Auer debuted in the DTM in 2015. With Gary Paffett at his side at the new ART Grand Prix team, Auer would score a few points a few times but ultimately place 23rd in the Championship. In 2016, Auer moved to Mücke Motorsport to drive alongside Christian Vietoris. At the Lausitzring, the Austrian driver would take his first DTM victory, and his subsequent podium finishes would put him in twelfth place in the Championship standings.

Since Mücke Motorsport left at the end of 2016, Auer joined Edoardo Mortara in a third HWA Team car for the 2017 season. With BWT’s support once again, Auer started the season by winning two of the first three races, but he eventually finished the year in sixth place in the Championship. While continuing to work with Mortara at HWA in 2018, Auer failed to add to his victory total and finished the year in seventh place. When Mercedes pulled out of the DTM at the conclusion of 2018, the Austrian driver was left without a ride, thus he joined the Red Bull Junior Team and the Super Formula for 2019.
