Born on December 1, 1977, in Mexico City, Luis Miguel “Chapulin” Daz Castell is a Mexican racing driver with Level 5 Motorsports in the American Le Mans Series. He and team owner Adrián Fernández won the LMP2 class drivers championship in the 2009 American Le Mans Series. He also finished second in the Rolex Sports Car Series DP drivers championship in 2005 and 2006. The open-wheel racing experience of Daz is significant as well. Diaz first competed in karting in 1989, and by 1992, he had won two consecutive National Championships in the Super 100cc class.

Having been named Formula Reynard’s Rookie of the Year in 1996, he moved on to Formula 3 International the following year, where he finished as Mexico’s best driver.  Diaz won the Formula Mexico championship in 1998, and he went on to become the first Mexican driver to win a race in the Panamerican Indy Lights series, as well as the series’ Rookie of the Year. In his maiden Indy Lights race in 1999 in Laguna Seca, Diaz placed 10th. In 2000, he drove for the GO-Quaker-Herdez team, and then in 2001, he switched to Roquin Motorsports, where he had one podium finish and four top-five finishes en route to a seventh-place championship finish.
