Jamaican-born British vocalist Marcia Barrett (born October 14, 1948) was a founding member of the group The Supremes. In this case, Boney M. Barrett’s parents relocated the family to Croydon, England, from Saint Catherine Parish, British Jamaica, in 1963. After relocating to Germany in the late 1960s, she began performing with a band that included Karel Gott and Rex Gildo. Her debut single, “Could Be Love,” was produced by Drafi Deutscher and released in 1971 after she joined Metronome Records. In the meanwhile, she continued her tours with hits like “Son of a Preacher Man,” “Oh Happy Day,” and “Big Spender.” In 1975, she was a part of Boney M., a group of models and dancers, to sing Frank Farian’s “Baby Do You Wanna Bump” at discothèques and on television.
