Australia’s Marcos Ambrose races in NASCAR for Richard Petty Motorsports in the Sprint Cup Series and, on occasion, the Nationwide Series in the #9 Stanley Ford Fusion. As with teammate Wood Brothers/JTG Racing driver Bobby East, Ambrose was not authorized by NASCAR to start in the faster races for the first three NCTS events since they were hosted on intermediate to high-speed ovals. At the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway on April 1, 2006, Ambrose made his Truck Series debut, qualifying in the 20th position and finishing in the 33rd position after getting caught up in an accident that occurred in front of him. In a national NASCAR series race, Ambrose is the first noteworthy Australian driver to compete since Dick Johnson in 1990.
