Singer and composer Marsha Ambrosius-Billups (born August 8, 1977) hails from Liverpool, England. Her musical career began when she joined the band Floetry. In March of 2011, Ambrosius published her first solo effort, titled Late Nights & Early Mornings. Marvin Ambrosius, her brother, is a British television host. Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie Stewart, the original duo of Floetry, bonded through a shared passion for the sport of basketball. Stewart and Ambrosius both went to the BRIT School of Performing Arts and Technology, with Ambrosius majoring in business and finance and Stewart in the arts.

Ambrosius had intended to study at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, but an accident prevented him from doing so. For a while, Stewart studied at London’s Middlesex University, but he eventually moved on to North London University. The ladies maintained contact throughout the years. Stewart was a pioneering member of the Han Solo in London, Birmingham, and Manchester performance poetry ensemble 3 Plus 1. In 1999, Ambrosius sent a song titled “Fantasize” to her record label, Perfect Songs, and asked poet Kristen Stewart to contribute to the track. Floetry was born out of this joint effort.
