Mary Agnes Donoghue is an American writer and director. She was born on March 26, 1943, in Queens. Donoghue’s first writing credit came in 1984 with the film The Buddy System, after stints as a secretary and short story writer. She then made her directorial debut with the film Paradise (1991) and wrote the script for the 1988 film Beaches. Donoghue’s first play, Me and Mamie O’Rourke, premiered at London’s Strand Theatre in 1993. She also co-wrote and co-produced the film Deceived (1991). White Oleander (2002) was Donoghue’s first script, while Veronica Guerin (2003) was a collaboration with Carol Doyle. Jenny’s Wedding was written and directed by Donoghue in 2013. Donoghue was born in the New York City borough of Queens. She started out in the secretarial field before shifting to screenwriting.

Donoghue also wrote poetry and short stories. Donoghue spent 19 years in a committed relationship with journalist and author Chris Robbins before finally marrying him in 1996. Robbins passed away from pancreatic cancer on December 24th, 2012. Donoghue made his screenwriting debut with the Richard Dreyfuss and Susan Sarandon romantic comedy movie The Buddy System in 1984.
