Michael Mario Andretti is a former professional racing driver and current Indy Racing League team owner who was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA. One of the most famous racecar drivers of all time, Mario Andretti, is his father. In 1980, Michael Andretti got his debut in Formula Ford. The next year, he went on to win the Super Vee title after winning six of the eleven races he competed. He began competing in Formula Atlantic against drivers like Roberto Moreno in 1983. Michael went on to win the championship after having victories at Sears Point, Trois Rivieres, and Westwood. In the same year he debuted in CART, he also finished third at the Le Mans 24 Hour Race with his dad and Philippe Alliot.

After acquiring the “Team Green” squad that Kim Green managed with his brother Barry Green and relocating it from the Champ Car series to the Indy Racing League in 2003, he started managing his own team under the name Andretti Green Racing. Dan Wheldon, driving for Andretti-Green Racing, won the Indianapolis 500 in 2005. In an attempt to help his son, 2006 IRL rookie Marco Andretti, Andretti returned to driving for the Indianapolis 500. With four circuits remaining, Michael was in the lead but dropped to second when his younger son, Marco, passed him. After a last-lap pass by Sam Hornish Jr., Michael finished third while Marco slipped to second. When Andretti revealed in July 2006 that Danica Patrick would be joining his team for the 2007 season, it was a huge win for the IndyCar Series.
