U.S.-born ex-stock-car racer Mike Skinner is a household name in the States. He has raced in NASCAR’s top divisions, the Sprint Cup Series, as well as the Busch and Camping World Truck Series. His most recent Cup Series driving gig was for Phil Parsons Racing in the No. 98 Ford Fusion. Jamie Skinner & Dustin Skinner, both of whom raced in NASCAR, have him as a parent. His birthplace was Susanville, California. After failing to qualify the No. 45 Eddie Sharp Racing Toyota Tundra for the 2011 Daytona 500, Skinner left the sport. Due to ESR registering the No. 45 after the entry date, Skinner was unable to utilize his former champion’s provisional.

He raced for Germain Racing in the Sprint Cup Series in the No. 60 Big Red Soda-sponsored Toyota Camry and for FAS Lane Racing in the No. 32 Ford Fusion for a few events. After Dave Blaney had to leave the vehicle due to health problems, he drove for Tommy Baldwin Racing in Atlanta. During the 2012 season opener for the Truck Series at Daytona, Skinner was driving the No. 8 Eddie Sharp Racing Chevrolet, however, he was engaged in an accident with teammate Cale Gale and did not complete the race.

Skinner joined Hamilton Means Racing in early May to compete in the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway in the Sprint Cup Series with the No. 52 car. His last start was the 2012 August Michigan event. Since then, he has stopped racing. In 2016, Skinner served as the test driver for the inaugural season of the British automotive program The Grand Tour. Skinner confirmed his departure from the program for Season 2 on November 7th, 2017. Race car driver Abbie Eaton eventually took his spot.
