Nancy Kerrigan  Bio

Nana Visitorborn July 26, 1957; age 64)is an American actress best known for playing Major (and later Colonel) Kira Nerys on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Nana Tucker, the daughter of a Broadway choreographer and a ballet instructor, was born as Visitor in New York City. Visitor’s first name is pronounced na-NA, with the emphasis on the second syllable, as her mother, who is of French origin, did. She credits Avery Brooks with ensuring her name was correctly pronounced on the set of Deep Space Nine.

She began acting on stage while in high school in the 1970s, and despite being accepted to Princeton University, she chose to pursue a professional acting career instead. She continued to perform on the New York stage, eventually landing roles on Broadway. She also made her television debut as a regular – credited as Nana Tucker – on the short-lived sitcom Ivan the Terrible, which aired during the 1976-1977 season. She also made her film debut in 1977 (still credited as Tucker) in the horror film The Sentinel, starring future DS9 guest star Chris Sarandon. During the 1978-79 season, she was a regular on the TV soap opera Ryan’s Hope, while future Star Trek: Voyager star Kate Mulgrew and DS9 co-star Andrew Robinson, who had also been regulars on the series, had left the cast.

ana Tucker began landing major Broadway roles in the 1980s, including the title role in Gypsy and a double role in My One and Only (co-starring Bruce McGill). During this time, she adopted a stage name, “Nana Visitor,” because “Visitor” is a “old family name on her mother’s side.” [2] She not only continued her stage career under this new name, but she also became a regular on another soap opera, The Doctors, from 1980 to 1981, during which time fellow Star Trek alumni Glenn Corbett and Terry O’Quinn were also regulars. In 1982, she had a recurring role on One Life to Live. here, she appeared as a guest star on shows such as Hunter (which featured Bruce Davison as a regular, in an episode with Gregory Itzin as a fellow guest star), MacGyver (two episodes, one in 1985, another – with Clive Revill – in 1987)

Matlock (three episodes – one in 1987 with Bert Remsen and Jason Wingreen, another in 1989 with Michael Durrell and James Sloyan, and a third in 1993 with Daniel Roebuck), Remington Steele (starring James B. Sikking and Lawrence Pressman). She also appeared in an episode of Ohara with Star Trek: The Next Generation actress Denise Crosby and Madge Sinclair, and had a brief recurring role on the Dynasty spin-off series The Colbys in 1987, which starred Tracy Scoggins, Stephanie Beacham, and Ricardo Montalban. She also appeared in the TV short Fraud Squad in 1985, as well as the made-for-TV films The Spirit (1987, with Daniel Davis, Bumper Robinson, and Garrick Walberg), Meet

After that, Visitor appeared in a number of TV shows, including Murder, She Wrote, Baby Talk (with Nicholas Kepros), Drexell’s Class (with Dakin Matthews), and Empty Nest, before auditioning The role piqued Visitor’s interest because it wasn’t “‘a mother, or a wife, or a prostitute, or a killer. [Kira] is fully realised.” Nana Visitor in an interview from Season 1 of DS9. Visitor married fellow dancer Nick Miscusi in December 1989.Buster was born in 1992, but the couple divorced in 1994. Visitor’s role as Kira Nerys was written into the series after Michelle Forbes declined the offer to play Ro Laren, her character from Star Trek: The Next Generation, in the series. When Visitor auditioned for the role of Major Kira, she decided to stay “in character” as Kira for the duration of the audition. The producers “thought was perfect for the role but would be a nightmare to work with,” she later admitted.

The visitor was skilled at the fight sequences required for the series, according to Stunt Coordinator Dennis Madalone. “She’s such a good actress for fight scenes,” Madalone said. (“Star Trek Magazine issue 127), “Flashback: The Way of the Warrior” Camille Calvet was the series’ regular makeup artist for Visitor. Due to the Cardassian makeup she had to wear, Visitor, who is extremely claustrophobic, had a difficult time filming the episode “Second Skin.” She couldn’t bring herself to wear the foam rubber head required for the holosuite scene in “Meridian,” in which Quark’s head is programmed onto Kira’s body, because of her previous experience. As a result, a body double had to be used in place of the Visitor. (From the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion (p. 187).)

During the course of Deep Space Nine, Visitor developed feelings for her co-star Alexander Siddig. The union eventually gave birth to a son, and Visitor’s pregnancy was incorporated into the series. Django El Tahir El Siddig, their son, was born on September 16, 1996, during the filming of the episode “Let Him Who Is Without Sin…” Visitor and Siddig married the following year, but divorced two years later, in 2001, two years after DS9. Several costumes and costume components worn by Visitor throughout the Deep Space Nine run were sold and auctioned off on eBay as part of the It’s A Wrap! sale and auction, including her baseball cap from the episode “Starship Down.”  Following DS9, Chicago Television Visitor appeared as the evil Dr. Eliz

Frasier (with Kelsey Grammer in the title role, in an episode also starring Ann Cusack and Harve Presnell), Las Vegas (with Nikki Cox, Sherman Howard, and Patrick Kilpatrick), According to Jim, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (with Tina Fey). A Woman’s Trek, Nana Visitor’s new book in progress, was announced last month. 455 Films, the filmmakers behind the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager documentaries, are also filming Visitor’s interviews for the book for a potential companion documentary. Following the announcement of the book, Visitor had a lot more to say about the project and women’s experiences in general. TrekMovie.com spoke with Visitor, who stated that the book has taken on a life of its own. ”

This is how I see it: it’s like the ocean, with so many waves on the surface.” But as you go deeper, you’ll notice that there are currents running through it. Those are the currents I’m interested in. We had cultural expectations and norms, and these are beginning to shift. But I was curious about what happened to the women who became entangled in the currents. What was their real life like? What kept them going…” The visitor went on to discuss the responses she is receiving from the women she is interviewing for the book, as well as the responses she hopes to receive from women she has not yet interviewed. During the lengthy conversation, Visitor also discussed women’s experiences outside of Trek, including her own sexual assault while working on Deep Space Nine (she recently spoke about the assault on Gates McFadden’s podcast).

The visitor intends to continue interviewing people for the book and documentary. “I just spoke with Kate [Mulgrew] last week, which was high on my wish list. Abrams, Stacey I’m hoping to speak with one of the astronauts. If COVID permits, I intend to visit the European Space Agency and speak with t and Wallace Langham). She co-starred with Corbin Bernsen in the 2004 television film They Are Among Us. Visitor played Jean Ritter in Michael and Shawn Piller’s ABC Family drama series Wildfire from 2005 to 2008. Despite a fan campaign to keep the show on the air, the series ended after four seasons on May 26, 2008. Visitor appeared as a cancer patient in the sixth episode of the final season of Ronald D. Moore’s Battlestar Galactica, titled “Faith,” in 2008, alongside BSG recurring actress Rekha Sharma. In addition to Moore, who wrote and produced for DS9, Visitor reunited writers David Weddle and Bradley Thompson, as well as artist Doug Drexler. According to Thompson, Weddle was the first person who came to mind after reading the script. Moore, according to Weddle, tried to cast Visitor in the previous season and jumped at the chance to cast her in this episode

Visitor played Major Kira tougher because of her background, using how her own body and mind would react if she had PTSD. She received a lot of criticism for her portrayal as a result of this decision. Some people told her she shouldn’t be angry or tough, and that she was disrespecting women by playing Kira “like a man.” Vi Visitor played Major Kira tougher because of her background, using how her own body and mind would react if she had PTSD. She received a lot of criticism for her portrayal as a result of this decision. Some people told her she shouldn’t be angry or tough, and that she was disrespecting women by playing Kira “like a man.” Visitor stood firm because she didn’t want to portray an idealized version of how a woman might react after a traumatic past, as Kira had. Kira was a tough woman because of her circumstances. Because she’d been through hell and back, Visitor had to play the character even harder. And after seven seasons of Deep Space Nine, Major Kira had gone through even more trauma, so she couldn’t be changed. The visitor did not act like a man when he played Kira. She portrayed her as a woman who had had enough of being mistreated and was not going to be mistreated again.
