Philip James Bailey, born in the United States on May 8, 1951, is an R&B, soul, gospel, and funk singer, composer, and percussionist. He is perhaps best known as a founding member of Earth, Wind & Fire and as one of the band’s two main vocalists with group founder Maurice White. Bailey has won seven Grammys and is famous for his four-octave vocal range and unusual falsetto register. As a member of Earth, Wind & Fire, he was honored with induction into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. Bailey’s contributions to the band’s songwriting earned him a spot in the Songwriters Hall of Fame as well.

The musician Bailey has released many albums under his own name. Chinese Wall, released in 1984, including the worldwide smash “Easy Lover,” a duet with Phil Collins that was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Male. In 1985, “Easy Lover” received the MTV Video Music Award for Best Overall Performance in a Video and was nominated for a Grammy as the year’s Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
