Rachelle Lefevre Bio

Lefevre was born in Montreal, Quebec, and raised there by her father, who was an English teacher, and her mother, who was a psychologist. Although her father’s family is originally from France and Northern Ireland, the Jewish ancestors of her mother’s family are from the United States. Her stepfather is a rabbi, which she finds interesting. Lefevre was reared in a non-denominational environment, yet he considers himself to be of Jewish heritage. She has three sisters and is fluent in both English and French, though she grew up primarily speaking English. She is from the United Kingdom.

She spent two summers studying drama at the Walnut Hill School in Natick, Massachusetts, before enrolling at McGill University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education and literature. In 2009, for every 10,000 people who followed her on Twitter, Lefevre made a $100 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a breast cancer research organization. In August 2009, she also held an eBay auction to raise money for the nonprofit School On Wheels, which gives tutoring to homeless children in the Southern California region. Lefevre worked as a vendor, selling t-shirts and other stuff that had been autographed by her Twilight co-stars.

Lefevre is a socialist who believes in socialism. She supported Senator Bernie Sanders for President of the United States during the 2016 presidential election. One of Lefevre’s frequent customers, an accomplished Canadian television producer, overheard her discussing her ambitions to become an actor while she was working as a waiter at a sushi restaurant in Westmount. Lefevre’s first audition, for a role in the sitcom Student Bodies, came about as a result of the producer.

She didn’t have a professional headshot at the time, so she sent a Polaroid photograph. She didn’t get the part, but she did get a call back from the casting director, which led to her landing a role in the Canadian television series Big Wolf on Campus in 1999, in which she played the character, Stacey Hanson. Lefevre continued his studies at McGill University in between shots, although he never completed his degree. George Clooney’s film Confessions of a Dangerous Mind was released in 2002, and Lefevre played the role of the dangerous mind.

Besides starring in the television movies Picking Up and Dropping Off with Scott Wolf and See Jane Date, she also participated in the romantic comedy Hatley High, which was released in 2003. In 2004, she starred as Etta Place in the television movie The Legend of Butch and Sundance, which was filmed in Calgary. Following his move to West Hollywood, California in that same year, Lefevre starred in two movies directed by Chazz Palminteri and starring Penélope Cruz, Noel (also starring Cruz), and Head in the Clouds (also starring Cruz and Charlize Theron). In Halifax, Lefevre starred in the mystery-thriller The River King, which was shot in April 2004 with Edward Burns in the lead role.

Lefevre made her television debut in 2005 as Lily Ashton, a mall fast-food restaurant employee, in the Fox sitcom Life on a Stick. She also appeared on the Fox series Pool Guys. In the ABC television series Life on Mars, Lefevre was cast as Annie Cartwright, the female lead in a David E. Kelley remake of the original British television series. The series was relaunched, and she was replaced by Gretchen Mol, who had shot the pilot episode with her. In the film Twilight (2008), based on the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer, Lefevre plays the rogue vampire Victoria. Lefevre addressed a passionate letter to the director, expressing her wish to collaborate with him and detailing her reasons for doing so. “Pure evil, pure instinct, pure malice, and very feline,” Lefevre described the essence of her character as being “pure evil, pure instinct, pure malice, and very feline.”

She studied lion attacks on YouTube after reading that the author used the word “feline” to describe her character’s agility, in order to distinguish the motions of her character from typical people’s. Aside from that, she studied trapeze in order to prepare for her wirework in the film. Lefevre spent many hours creating the clothes for her persona, and she described herself as “obsessed” with vampires after reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula when she was fourteen years old. Lefevre felt overwhelmed at times by the amount of attention she was receiving as a result of her engagement with Twilight. She took part in a promotional tour in November 2008, during which she visited Twilight fans and signed autographs at Hot Topic stores across the United States.

“It’s the closest I’ll ever come in my life to being a rock star,” she said in an interview with The Canadian Press, referring to an appearance on MuchMusic, where more than 1,500 admirers flocked to Toronto to see her perform. When Lefevre came to a Wal-Mart in Salt Lake City to promote the DVD release of the film, he was greeted by more than 2,500 enthusiastic fans. Overall, however, Lefevre expressed joy at the level of interest and excitement generated by the audience members. She appeared in New Moon, the film’s sequel, which was based on Meyer’s second novel and which she finished filming in Vancouver in May 2009. She is married to actor Ryan Reynolds.

In 2009, Lefevre starred in the CBC Television miniseries The Summit, which was filmed in Ontario, and finished the picture Casino Jack, which starred Kevin Spacey and was released in theatres in 2010. As Emily J. Miller in the film Casino Jack, she portrays the former press secretary for Republican congressman Tom DeLay who played a key role in the conviction of lobbyist Jack Abramoff (Kevin Spacey) for his role in an illegal political campaign involving Native American tribes. Mordecai Richler’s award-winning novel Barney’s Version was made into a film, and Lefevre played the lead role in the adaption.

In the film, Lefevre portrays Clara Panofsky, a manic depressive feminist poet who marries the film’s protagonist, Barney Panofsky (Paul Giamatti). Her sequences were filmed in August 2009 in Rome, Italy. On-location shooting resumed in Montreal and New York City as part of the production. Soon after the production, in November 2009, Lefevre traveled to Puerto Rico with actors Lorna Raver and Stephen Moyer to film the suspense drama The Caller. She took over for Brittany Murphy, who had left the project due to personal reasons.

On January 21, 2010, Lefevre made his television debut in the pilot episode of the ABC drama series The Deep End. Dr. Ryan Clark, a young doctor working in a South American medical clinic, was her character in the drama series Off the Map, in which she also appeared.

This medical drama, created by Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, was filmed in Hawaii and premiered on January 12, 2011, before being canceled after 13 episodes. Lefevre, along with host William Shatner, provided the voice for the 31st annual Genie Awards, which took place in March 2011. She was also cast in the NBC pilot Reconstruction (working title: The Crossing), a drama set during the American Civil War that will premiere in the fall. Anna, played by Lefevre, is a widow who initiates an affair with a soldier after her husband dies.

In 2011, Lefevre joined the cast of A Gifted Man, a CBS television drama in which he played a doctor. Lefevre featured in Under the Dome, a CBS summer thriller that premiered in June 2013 and was based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel of the same name, which premiered in 2009. Lefevre became a member of an ensemble cast. The sitcom was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, and aired on the network for three seasons before being canceled in September 2015 due to low ratings.

In 2017, Lefevre joined the cast of Global’s critically acclaimed original television series, Mary Kills People, which premiered in January 2018 and received a second season. Mary is played by Caroline Dhavernas in the series. Olivia, played by Lefevre, is the sister of a victim from Season 1, and she attempts to blackmail Mary in this episode. In 2019, she starred as Madeline Scott in the Fox courtroom drama Proven Innocent, in which she received critical acclaim. Bryce Dallas Howard took over Lefevre’s role as Victoria in Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight series, after Lefevre declined to repeat her part.

Summit Entertainment blamed the change on scheduling issues. Access Hollywood said that Lefevre expressed shock and sadness at the decision, saying she never imagined she would be “cut from the show over a ten-day overlap.” She added that she was “stunned” by the decision and “greatly saddened” not to continue her depiction of Victoria. “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is an ensemble production that must accommodate the schedules of several performers while maintaining the established artistic vision of the filmmaker and, most crucially, the story,” the studio stated in a counter-statement.

As soon as the news broke of Lefevre’s replacement, supporters took to the internet to demand that she be reinstated, and the hashtag “Bring Back Rachelle” became the top trending topic on Twitter in the afternoon of July 29, 2009. Extra said that Lefevre was “totally blown away” by the outpouring of affection from fans, who even created a tribute film for her on YouTube. On Twitter, Lefevre stated that the Los Angeles premiere of New Moon was “simply too emotional for me” and that she was “unable to manage it.”
