Professional racecar driver Ricardo Zonta hails from Brazil. His current full-time job has him racing the No. 10 RCM Motorsport-entered Toyota Corolla E210 in the Brazilian Stock Car Pro Series. In 2002, he made the conscious decision to compete in and ultimately win the Telefónica World Series. After that, Toyota’s F1 team recruited Zonta as a test driver in 2003, and he stayed on until 2004. Later in the season, the team replaced Cristiano da Matta with Zonta, who competed in four Grands Prix after da Matta was cut. When his engine gave down with three laps to go in Belgium, he was in fourth position.

Zonta was forced to sit out of competition at Suzuka when the team signed Jarno Trulli, but he was able to race in the Brazilian Grand Prix, where he placed 13th. In 2005, he maintained his role as a test driver for Toyota with the seasoned French pilot Olivier Panis. Later that year, he substituted for an injured Ralf Schumacher in the US Grand Prix, but Toyota, along with six other teams using Michelin tyres, pulled out of the race on safety concerns. Zonta remained a part of the Toyota squad in 2006, both as a test driver and as a third car. On September 6, 2006, he was officially named as the 2007 test driver for the Renault Formula One team.
