Born in the United States on June 20, 1958, Ronald Lee Hornaday Jr. is a driver who competed in stock car racing professionally in the past. He is the son of the late Ron Hornaday Sr., who won the Winston West Championship on two separate occasions, and the father of former NASCAR driver Ronnie Hornaday. In the Camping World Truck Series, Hornaday has won the title of champion four times, with his most recent victory coming in 2009. He has a wealth of experience driving in NASCAR’s Winston West Series and is the reigning champion of the Featherlite Southwest Tour. While he was competing in the NASCAR Winter Heat on TNN, Dale Earnhardt saw him and took note of his talent. Hornaday was born in Palmdale, California, and he got his start in motorsports at a young age by competing in go-kart and motorbike races. At some point in time, he progressed to driving stock cars at Saugus Speedway. 1992 was the year that he won his first title in the Southwest Series. That same year, he also took home the honor for Most Popular Driver.

After winning the Southwest championship the following year as well, he was the first and only driver in the history of the series to accomplish this feat until Jim Pettit won consecutive championships in 2004 and 2005. In 1992, he made his debut in the Winston Cup competition in the Save Mart 300K. He began the race in 17th place but ended up finishing in 32nd place while driving Bob Fisher’s No. 92 Chevrolet. Later on in same year, he participated in another race at Phoenix International Raceway, where he ended up finishing 25th. He returned to Phoenix the following season, driving the No. 76 Spears Motorsports car, and finished the race in 22nd place. When the Super Truck Series was just getting started, Hornaday secured a contract to drive the No. 16 Chevrolet C/K that was sponsored by RCCA Products and Papa John’s Pizza and was owned by Dale Earnhardt, Inc.
