Helen Folasade Adu, better known by her stage name Sade, is a British singer of Nigerian descent who was born on January 16, 1959, in Ibadan, Nigeria. Her music is a fusion of soul, funk, jazz, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. In the 1980s and early 1990s, she was well acclaimed by critics and very popular.Adu, the daughter of a Nigerian economics professor and a British nurse, was never called by her English first name, Helen.
