London native Shola Ama (born March 8, 1979) is a popular British singer best known for her renditions of Randy Crawford’s “You’re the One I Love” (1981) on “You Might Need Somebody” (1997) and “Still Believe” (1999), the latter of which was produced by the groundbreaking Norwegian duo Stargate. At the age of fifteen, Ama was discovered by a producer from the record label FreakStreet as she was singing to herself on a platform at the Hammersmith tube station. D’Influence’s 1995 song “Celebrate” was published as a single by an unidentified indie label. Despite the single’s lackluster sales, it helped raise Shola Ama’s profile as a musician. She signed a recording deal with WEA on her 16th birthday.
