As a result of her musician father and actor-singer uncle Kevin Colsan, Sia was exposed to music from a young age.

The Australian rock band ‘INXS’ was acquainted with her father’s family, and her father’s close friend Colin Hay, a member of another Australian rock band, ‘Men at Work,’ was acquainted with her father, both of whom were likely to have influenced her musical preferences.

Her early musical influences included artists such as Sting, Stevie Wonder, and Aretha Franklin, whom she would often imitate during her childhood. It was in the mid-1990s that she began her musical career as a vocalist with ‘Crisp,’ a local Adelaide acid jazz band, on which she contributed vocals to two of their EPs, “Word and the Deal,” in 1996, and “Delirium,” in 1997. In 1997, after the band ‘Crisp’ disintegrated, Sia released her debut studio album, ‘OnlySee,’ on December 23 of that year, which was the first time she used her full name rather than just Sia, as she would later do on subsequent releases. One thousand and two hundred copies of the album were sold, and there were 13 tunes on it. Sia relocated to London in order to improve her music career and be closer to her lover, Dan Pontifex, who she met while in Los Angeles.

The English musical duet “Zero 7” was likewise comprised of her.

As a result of her efforts, she eventually rose to the role of “unofficial” lead singer for the downtempo band, accompanying them on tour and contributing vocals to their first three studio albums. ‘Destiny’ and ‘Distractions’ from the first album ‘Simple Things’ (2001); tracks ‘Somersault’ and speed Dial No.2′ from the second album ‘When It Falls” (2004), and five tracks from the third album ‘.
