Skrillex Bio

Skrillex was born Sonny John Moore in Northeast Los Angeles on 15 January 1988. Skrillex’s family moved to San Francisco’s Forest Hill neighbourhood when he was two years old.He began his schooling in an elementary school and later transferred to a nearby boarding school in Las Vegas’s Mojave Desert. Skrillex’s family migrated to Northeast Los Angeles when he was 12 years old.

His parents, who were Scientology members, enrolled him at a private academy school that adhered to some of the ideals of L Ron Hubbard, the cult’s founder. He was bullied at school, and as a result, he was homeschooled at the age of 14.Skrillex discovered he was adopted in 2004, when he was sixteen years old, and thus dropped out of school.

Skrillex attended punk concerts in Mexican American neighbourhoods in South and East Los Angeles as a teenager and later went to clubs in downtown Los Angeles that played electro house music.

Skrillex travelled to Georgia in 2004 after meeting Matt Good, the frontman of the rock band ‘From First to Last’ (FFTL). Skrillex initially stated a wish to play guitar on their debut studio album, but was ultimately chosen as the lead singer after being sounded out by music producers McHale Butler, Eric Dale, and Derrick Thomas.

The band’s debut LP (long player), “Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count,” was published by Epitaph Records in June 2004. Following the publication of the LP, a series of successful music tours ensued, most notably the ‘Dead by Dawn’ and ‘Vans Warped’ tours.

In March 2006, Epitaph Records published the band’s second album, titled “Heroine.” The album’s critical acclaim prompted the band to embark on another cross-country tour. Skrillex, on the other hand, suffered vocal issues, forcing the band to cancel a number of forthcoming gigs.

Skrillex announced his departure from the group following a surgical surgery in order to pursue a solo career as a soloist. He performed his final show with ‘FFTL’ at Orlando, Florida’s ‘House of Blues’ restaurant/bar.

Skrillex developed and operated his own MySpace profile following his departure from the band, and uploaded snippets of three songs: “Glow Worm”, “Equinox”, and “Signal”.

On 7 April 2007, he performed his first solo public performance alongside Carl Robbins, a renowned harpist. He continued to release trailers for other songs on his MySpace profile and eventually created his own band and toured the country with a band called ‘Team Sleep.’

Skrillex was a part of the second annual AP Tour, sponsored by ‘The Alternative Press Magazine,’ in February 2008, which featured renowned musical acts such as ‘Forever the Sickest Kid,’ ‘The Matches,’ and ‘The Rocket Summer.’

The Alternative Press Magazine published an annual book titled ‘100 Bands You Need to Know,’ in which each band who performed on the AP tour was featured on the cover.

Skrillex released a digital EP titled ‘Gypsyhook’ in 2009, which included four remixes and three original compositions. During his live appearances, he sold CDs and DVDs of the EP. Skrillex played under the moniker ‘Sonny and the Blood Monkeys’ when on tour with the band ‘Hollywood Undead’ in 2009.On 7 June 2010, he released his official debut EP, ‘My Name is Skrillex,’ as a free download.

He launched the ‘Project Blue Book Tour’ in 2011 to promote the song “Bring Out the Devil” and also debuted a slew of new tracks, including “Cinema”, “Reptile”, and “First of the Year”.
