Steven John Wilkos, a member of the United States Marine Corps and a former police officer with the Chicago Police Department, was born on March 9, 1964, and is an American television personality. In addition to presenting The Steve Wilkos Show since 2007, he served as Jerry Springer’s security director from 1994 to 2007. Before getting his own talk show, he often filled in for Springer as the host. Wilkos is one of four children and was raised in Chicago’s North Center neighbourhood, which is now known as Roscoe Village. His parents are Stanley Wilkos, a former police officer who served in the Korean War as an army paratrooper, and Jeanette Wilkos, a beauty school teacher.
In 1982, he received his diploma from Lane Technical High School. The producers of Jerry Springer, which was being recorded in Chicago at the time, decided to recruit Wilkos and other off-duty police officers to work part-time on the programme in May 1994 because they required security guards. Wilkos resigned from the police in 2004 after spending his whole career working only for the show, during which time he recruited a number of other cops for the position.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Wilkos began competing as a professional wrestler for the Maryland Championship Wrestling when Jerry Springer was temporarily off the air. In 2005, Wilkos made an appearance as a guest on the Chicago PBS station WTTW’s restaurant review show Check, Please! Wilkos stood in for Springer as he started his seven-episode Dancing with the Stars run in 2006, and Springer eventually hired Wilkos to stand in for him every Monday, calling him “the natural option.” He has made guest appearances on the MLB Network in addition to Jerry Springer. Additionally, he played a security guard for Jerry Springer in the film Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and the television shows Between Brothers and The Wayans Brothers.
