Sunshine On June 7, 1974, American R&B and soul vocalist Jocelyn Sian Anderson was born. Anderson’s family originally hails from Winston-Salem, but they settled in Charlotte. While attending North Carolina Central University (where she received a BS in criminal justice), Anderson was discovered by producer/Soulive A&R Vice President, Mike City, thanks to Wallace Sellars, a mutual acquaintance. Anderson joined Atlantic Records in 1999 and had Macy Gray serve as her manager throughout the sessions for her first album. In April of 2001, Anderson released her first full-length album titled Your Woman.

In its first week of release, the album reached position No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 200 and position No. 2 on the Top R&B Albums rankings. Released on May 21, 2001, the album’s debut song, “Heard It All Before,” reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the top 3 on the R&B charts. Lunch or Dinner, the follow-up song, peaked at position No. 54 on the R&B singles chart. Later that year, the album reached gold status. Mathew Knowles’ new record company, Music World Entertainment, signed Anderson in August of 2004.  She debuted on a new label in 2006, and her first song, “Something I Wanna Give You,” reached No. 80 on the Billboard R&B charts. Director Gil Green filmed a music video for the track in the city of Los Angeles.
