A former racing driver, Tim Schenken is from Sydney, Australia. After making his debut on August 16, 1970, he raced in a total of 36 Grand Prix for the Formula One World Championship. As a racer, he finished third once, in the 1971 Austrian Grand Prix, and he earned a total of seven points toward the title. His best finishes were third in the 1971 BRDC International Trophy and the 1972 International Gold Cup, both of which were not championship events.

Together with fellow Kiwi Howden Ganley, he established the British racing team Tiga Race Cars in 1974; the team’s vehicles went on to have considerable success in the Sports 2000 class, as well as in other categories. The Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series employs him annually as Race Director. He is the Clerk of the Course for the Australian Grand Prix and the first Singapore Grand Prix in 2008 in addition to being a director of Motorsport Australia.

Schenken is one of just five Australians to ever finish on the podium in a Formula One Grand Prix as of the 2020 season. The others include Mark Webber, Daniel Ricciardo, Sir Jack Brabham, Alan Jones, and others who have won a Grand Prix. Tim Schenken was honored with a Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division on June 16th, 2016 as part of the Queen’s Birthday celebrations. Now, he serves as Motorsport Australia’s Director of Race Operations.
