Originally from the Philippines, Filipina Lydia “Tina” Arena AM (born 1 November 1967) is an Australian music legend. She has sold over 10 million albums globally, making her one of Australia’s most successful musicians. The arena is fluent in many languages, and she has released music in English, Italian, French, and Spanish. The arena has been recognized on both a global and domestic scale, earning a BRIT Award, seven ARIA Awards, and two World Music Awards for Best-selling Australian Artist (1996, 2000). She received a BMI Foundation Songwriting Award (Broadcast Music Inc) in 2001 for her collaboration on the song “Burn” with Pam Reswick and Steve Werfel; BMI is an American performance rights organization. In 2011, Arena made history when she became the first Australian to receive a knighthood in the French National Order of National Merit.
The award was presented to her by Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the French Republic, and ceremonially bestowed upon her by Frédéric Mitterrand, Minister of Culture and Communication of France. The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) honored Arena with induction into its Hall of Fame in 2015. During the Australia Day celebrations on January 26, 2016, Arena was honored for his “significant contribution to the music business as a singer, songwriter, and recording artist, and as a supporter of philanthropic causes” by being inducted into the General Division of the Order of Australia.
