Virginie Efira Bio

Professor André Efira, a hematologist and oncologist, and his wife Carine Verelst are the parents of this little lady. To a certain extent, Efira’s ancestors are of Greek descent. In 2002, she moved in with her husband, Patrick Ridremont, and stayed with him until 2005, when they separated. According to court records, they filed for divorce in February 2009 and are no longer married. She later divorced Mabrouk. In her present relationship, Niels Schneider is a new man in her life, and she is excited about him.

Earlier this year, she was granted citizenship by the Republic of France. In her early career, she was appointed to host a children’s show called Mégamix on Club RTL (a Belgian television station owned by the RTL Group), which she did for a total of two years. Later on, she presented several additional shows in Belgium, including A la recherche de la nouvelle star, which she hosted for a number of years. In September 2002, she was given the role of presenter of Star Academy, which is the Belgian version of the show.

She accepted the post. The weather girl for France’s M6 television channel, she swiftly rose to prominence as one of the channel’s most recognizable public faces, hosting a variety of shows such as Le Grand Zap, La saga des…, Follement Gay and Absolument 80/90, Le Grand Piège and Drôles d’équipes, to name a few. Following a year as the host of Classé Confidentiel, she moved on to become the host of the popular musical reality show Nouvelle Star at the end of the show’s fourth season, which she continued to host until her departure.

Aside from that, she is a regular on RTL-TVi, where she hosts a range of shows (a spin-off channel in the RTL Group). The French-language version of Garfield: The Movie, in which she starred as Dr. Liz Wilson, marked the beginning of her professional film career in 2004. She also had a role in the 2005 film Robots, in which she played Piper, which was later released in English as a French-language version.

She was born in the United Kingdom (2018). Efira has also starred as a guest star in two episodes of the very popular French television series Kaamelott, in which she appeared as a guest star. She took part in the event Rendez-vous en Terre Inconnue, which took place in 2010 and was attended by a number of other people.

Afterward, Efira played as a supporting character in the Anne Fontaine-directed comedy-drama My Worst Nightmare (2011), in which she co-starred with other actors such as Isabelle Huppert, Benoît Poelvoorde, and André Dussollier, among others. She received the Audience Award for her performance the following year, at the 2nd Magritte Awards, which took place the following year.

Earlier in 2013, Efira co-starred with Pierre Niney in the romantic comedy It Boy, which followed the story of a 38-year-old woman and her connection with an adolescent boy who was around at the time. In France, where it garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews, the picture was a tremendous hit with audiences. According to Variety, her performance “demonstrates a singular capacity for transmitting thoughts and eliciting laughter just through facial expressions, a trait that receives yet another fantastic exercise here,” she said of her performance.

The film was released in 2016. The film was screened as part of the International Reviewers’ Week portion of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where it was met with largely excellent reviews from critics. For her effort, she was nominated for both the Magritte Award for Best Actress and the César Award for Best Actress, and her performance was lauded by The Hollywood Reporter as “vibrant” and “well-tuned.”

A modest but crucial role in Paul Verhoeven’s psychological thriller Elle, in which she co-starred with Isabelle Huppert, was Efira’s first major film role. This year’s final release was Up for Love, a romantic comedy in which she appeared alongside Jean Dujardin and portrayed a lawyer who falls in love with a man of diminutive size. It was also her final release of the calendar year 2016. The next year, she starred as herself in an episode of the popular French television series Call My Agent!, which was shown in the United States.

Christine Angot’s best-selling novel An Impossible Love, which follows the story of Angot’s unfaithful father and her mother, who has been blinded by events depicted in the novel, was adapted into a film by Catherine Corsini in 2018. Efira acted as the lead in the film, which was released in 2018. The film, as well as her performance, received overwhelmingly excellent feedback. “Shows herself more than capable of a heavyweight dramatic role, subtly maturing from romantic twenties to careworn middle age,” wrote Screen International in their review, adding that she “delivers a powerful, assured performance in a film that’s likely to score highly both as a superior and very accessible melodrama as well as an intelligent discussion piece.”

Among other accolades, she was nominated for a Cesar Award, a Globe de Cristal Award, and a Lumières Award in the Best Actress category for her performance in the film. After her performance in the Gilles Lellouche-directed comedy Sink or Swim, which was screened out of competition at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and garnered her a Cesar Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress the following year, Efira was nominated for a Cesar Award for Best Supporting Actress the following year.

It has already been mentioned that her performance in the drama Keep Going received acclaim, with The Hollywood Reporter praising her for “her superb performance as a woman trapped between her fiercely independent character and her desire to be an admirable mother, attempting to steer her child on the right road.” Her next role was that of a psychologist in the comedy-drama Sibyl, which marked her second collaboration with director Justine Triet. In the film, she played a writer who aspires to return to her former literary career.

When the film was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or award at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, it received overwhelmingly positive critical reception, with particular praise for Efira’s performance. According to Variety, ‘Sibyl heralds Efira Asante’s rise as a first-class leading lady with consistently expanding range and elan — as well as the emotional honesty and deadpan pluck to pull off the more ridiculous character turns in Triet and Arthur Harari’s limber original script.’

Sibyl’s altered states are woven together into a whole that reflects her desire to be many things at once, according to The Hollywood Reporter, who described her performance as “exceptional.” “The actress plays several roles at the same time — the astute psychologist, the struggling author, the affectionate yet neglectful mother, the fervid lover in two very candid sex scenes — and she does each one extremely well, turning Sibyl’s altered states into a whole that reflects her desire

Almost a year later, she co-starred with Omar Sy in the crime drama Night Shift, in which she portrayed one of three police officers who were tasked with escorting a suspected illegal alien to an airport, where he would be forcibly placed on an aircraft and repatriated to his country of origin. The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, which was held in September. Screen International stated that, despite a mixed response from the critics, Efira was “clearly on the verge of an international breakthrough” and “continues to impress with a cool command, never giving away too much about her character, but evoking intense emotional turmoil beneath the calm exterior.”

A comedy-drama directed by Albert Dupontel, in which Efira played a terminally ill hairdresser who goes on an adventure to reconnect with her long-lost child with the help of an insane bureaucrat and a deaf archivist, was released in the same year as Bye Bye Morons. A reunion with Paul Verhoeven will take place in the historical drama Benedetta, where Efira will portray Benedetta Carlini, a 17th-century nun who experiences unusual religious and sensual visions while on her mission.

The film Benedetta will be released in theatres in the year 2021. Verhoeven was so taken with her performance as the rapist’s wife in his previous film Elle that he offered her the lead role in his new film without even giving her a screen test or any direction as to what she should do, as the actress later explained, “That’s the ultimate sign of trust in your actress.” It allowed me to take ownership of the project, and I was certain that Paul would film something interesting with what I came up with as a result of my efforts.

To use Benedetta’s case in point, is it my job to answer ambiguously when she expresses ambiguity herself? Is it his choice whether or not to videotape it, or does he have to? I sent Benedetta on a mission, but I didn’t clarify what kind of assignment it was until after she returned from the mission. I feel it is a multi-faceted endeavor on many levels. Some aspects of it, such as absolute faith or the most diabolical plotting, cannot be reduced to a single component, and therefore they are included. Both aspects are depending on one another in order to function. Benedetta, a devout follower of Jesus, is on the lookout for sources of power as she pursues her ambitions. Despite her sweetness and goodwill, she is not without her flaws.
