Zoie Palmer Bio

Zoie Palmer was born in the English town of Camborne, in the county of Cornwall, and she emigrated to Canada when she was ten years old when the country was still known as the United Kingdom. After graduating from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Newmarket, Ontario, in 2001 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from York University in Toronto, she went on to work as a graphic designer.

As a child actor in summer stock at the Red Barn Theatre in Jackson’s Point, Ontario, Palmer earned his first professional acting experience. He was just sixteen years old at the time. Palmer served as campaign ambassador for the annual Women in Film & Television Toronto (WIFT) Stars fundraising event in 2018.

She promoted the organisation throughout the year. Palmer’s most well-known role is that of Doctor Lauren Lewis, a prominent character in the Canadian television series Lost Girl (2010–2015). A few of her television appearances include the made-for-TV movies The Reagans (2003), in which she starred as Patti Reagan, Out of the Ashes (2003), in which she starred as Didi Goldstein, and Devil’s Perch (2005), in which she starred as Abby. She also appeared in the feature film The Reagans (2003).

She starred as rock singer Patsy Sewer in the CTV adolescent drama/comedy series Instant Star (2006–2007), and she also acted as Coast Guard rescue specialist Carly Greig in the Global drama The Guard (2008–2009). She also had a recurring role on the CTV adolescent drama/comedy show Instant Star (for which she had to conquer her fear of water).

Anya Vimeo, a terrorist who attempts to derail a peace summit, was played by Palmer in the CW espionage drama Nikita in the episode “Girl’s Best Friend” (2011); the HBO Canada comedy Call Me Fitz in the episode “Don of the Differently Abled” (2011) as Laura, an unhinged amputee who plans to start an escort service for disabled people; and the CTV fantasy drama The Listener in the third-season finale “The Her role as The Android in the science-fiction television series Dark Matter, which aired from 2015 to 2017, was her first major television role after Lost Girl. As part of the show’s third season, he also hosted After Dark, a web-based aftershow for episodes of the season.

She has starred in a number of films, including the short drama Terminal Venus (2003), the romantic comedy The Untitled Work of Paul Shepard (2010), the supernatural horror Devil (2010), Officer Frances Jane in the crime thriller Cold Blooded (2012), Lou in the comedy Sex After Kids (2013), and Bethany in the fantasy adventure Patch Town (2014), among others (2014).

Terminal Venus earned Zoie Palmer a Best Actor Award at the 2004 Baja Film Festival (Mexico), and Cold-Blooded earned her a Gold Medallion Acting Award at the 2012 Bare Bones International Film Festival for Best Actress in a Feature Film. Zoie Palmer was also nominated for an Academy Award in 2004. In 2011, she was nominated for an ACTRA Award for her performance in The Untitled Work of Paul Shepard, and in 2014, she was nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award for Multimedia / Best Female Performance in a Feature for her performance in Sex After Kids. An Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award have both been nominated to her in the past.

In 2013, she was named “Best Sci-Fi or Fantasy Actress” by Canadagraphs in its annual Best Of TV Awards, and she was also named “Favorite TV Actress” and “Best Tweeter” in the annual AfterEllen Visibility Awards for her popularity. E! Entertainment Television, a well-known television show, picked her as the “Girl on Top 2013” after conducting a popularity contest among its viewers to determine their favorite television leading ladies. According to Hello! Canada, she was named “Number 1” for 2014 and was featured in the magazine’s annual 50 Most Beautiful Stars issue, which honors Canadian talent. Palmer was honored with the Fan Choice Award for Favorite Canadian Screen Star at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards, which he graciously received on his behalf.

She was voted one of CNN’s “Favorite TV Couples” of all time in 2013 for her role as Lauren in the television series Lost Girl, in which she co-starred with Bo (Anna Silk). In its annual online contest, E! Entertainment Television chose her and Bo as the “Top TV Couple of 2013,” and CNN named them as one of their “Favorite TV Couples of All Time.”

In 1994, Alliance Communications (prior to its merger with Atlantis) partnered with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and a number of smaller independent Canadian producers to launch a television network that would showcase “the best of independently produced movies, drama, comedy, and miniseries from Canada and around the world,” with a strong emphasis on Canadian content and only a small amount of content from the United States. After a brief opening montage and a screening of Monty Python’s Life of Brian, the channel officially launched at midnight on January 1, 1995, as part of its program The Showcase Revue, which was broadcast throughout the day.

The showcase was the logo that was used from 2000 until 2009. This logo was also used until 2009 in conjunction with Showcase Action and Showcase Diva. Action (previously Showcase Action, which was rebranded as the Canadian equivalent of Adult Swim in April 2019) and Showcase Diva (previously Showcase Diva, which was rebranded as the Canadian equivalent of Adult Swim in April 2019) were both born out of Showcase’s digital television service in the 1990s (which was relaunched as a Canadian version of Lifetime in 2012).

A high definition simulcast of the Showcase television show, which originally aired on the Discovery Channel, was launched by Alliance Atlantis on December 19, 2006. The Alliance Atlantis corporation was successful in acquiring entire control of Showcase Entertainment over a period of several years. Because of the explicit programming on Showcase, which was recently acquired by Canwest, the station’s new management believed that the channel was alienating both viewers and advertisers.

The Showcase network received a dramatic rebranding on August 31, 2009, which coincided with the release of a new programming roster that placed a greater emphasis on popular dramas and films. Additionally, Showcase Diva’s logo was updated, and Showcase Action was rebranded to simply Action at the same time as well. Both viewers and advertisers responded well to Canwest’s new programming roster, as was anticipated by the channel’s management.

However, while Showcase continues to broadcast a broader spectrum of drama programming that encompasses a diverse range of themes, its recent successes, particularly in the field of original programming, have come in the areas of science fiction and fantasy programming. When the channel launched its highest-rated series premiere in history in 2010, it was aided by a new original series, the supernatural crime thriller Lost Girl, which attracted approximately 400,000 viewers in its first week of airing.

In less than two years, another original science-fiction series, Continuum, premiered to a record-breaking average audience of 900,000 viewers, easily smashing the previous mark by a substantial margin. In connection with its acquisition of Canwest and Goldman Sachs’ investment in CW Media, Shaw Communications bought control of Showcase on October 27, 2010, marking the company’s second change of ownership in as many years.

The Fall 2013 season of Showcase Theatre Company will be marked by the introduction of a new tagline and branding campaign, “Character is Everything.” Promos told in first-person by characters from Showcase’s series served as the high point of the series’ four-week marketing effort, which was aimed at bringing attention to the show. Stitch Media was tasked with the design and development of an interactive website.
