American football player and running back for the National Football League who went by the name “Otis D. Armstrong” (NFL). He was the ninth overall choice in the first round of the NFL Draft in 1973. From 1973 through 1980, he suited up for the Denver Broncos. In college, Armstrong dominated the rushing and all-purpose yardage records at Purdue, setting him up for success in the NFL. To commemorate 100 years of football at Purdue, Armstrong was named to the school’s All-Time squad in 1987. The Purdue University Athletics Department honored him by inducting him into the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in the same year, 1997.

Armstrong dominated the NFL in his second year in the league, setting new records for running yards (1,407) and yards per carry. He helped the Denver Broncos reach Super Bowl XII that year when they ultimately fell to the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 27-10. Armstrong played in the NFL for 8 years and ended with 4,453 running yards, 1,302 receiving yards, and 879 kickoff return yards. In addition, he tallied 32 touchdowns (25 rushing and 7 receiving). On October 13, 2021, Otis Armstrong passed away peacefully at home. He was 70.
