AKA was in a relationship with producer DJ Zinhle, and the couple has a daughter named Kairo, who was born on July 8, 2015. He later dated television host Bonang Matheba, with whom he split up in December 2017.

He was a member of the rap group Entity, which had a hit with “Touch N Go” in 2002. Entity was nominated for “Best African Hip Hop” at the KORA Awards in 2005 and performed at the event.
