Amy Jo Johnson Bio

Amy Jo Johnson’s parents, Greig Johnson Sr., a car salesman, and Christine Johnson (d. 1998), a clothes store manager, welcomed her into the world on October 6, 1970, in Hyannis, Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Greig Johnson Sr. and Christine Johnson (who died in 1998), both of whom were employed in the fashion industry at the time of her birth. She was raised by her parents.

In addition to her mother and father, she has two siblings, a brother, and a sister.  Gymnastics was something she was interested in as a child. Their former husband Olivier Giner, who died in a car accident, was Johnson’s first and only marriage. The couple separated in 2017 and have only one child together, a daughter who was born in 2008 and was nurtured by her mother until she was eighteen.

On June 23, 2015, Johnson became a citizen of Canada, making her a dual citizen of both the United States and the nation in which she was born. Johnson presently resides in Toronto, Canada, and has been a resident there since 2006. Johnson moved to New York City when he was 18 years old in order to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

New York City’s Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, as well as the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, were where she acquired her formal acting training. A few months later, she went to Los Angeles in order to try out for her first acting role. It was in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the first installment of the Power Rangers franchise, that Johnson had her breakthrough, despite the fact that she had only been in Los Angeles for just more than a month at the time. Johnson played the Pink Ranger, Kimberly Hart, in the film.

The show’s enormous popularity and the fact that it helped Johnson gain international recognition as an actress were not enough to compensate her and the other cast members, who were paid only $600 per week for their work on the show, which included stunt work and public appearances; none of the cast members received any royalties from reruns of the episodes in which they were featured. Johnson died in 2006, at the age of 61, after a long illness.

The fact that Johnson was a non-union cast member on a non-union production presented a very serious threat on set. The actress came dangerously close to getting electrocuted while filming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, and she came dangerously close to being set on fire during a stunt while filming Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. Johnson finally took the decision to leave the show in 1995, with her role, the Pink Ranger, being replaced by Australian actress Catherine Sutherland as a result of her departure.

The Pink Power Ranger was something Johnson laughed about on I Love the ’90s, saying it was something she’d “never be able to get over.” As she grew older, Johnson acknowledged that becoming famous as a result of the show had been stressful at times and had given her nightmares, but that she had learned a great deal from the experience and was grateful to the show and her fans for that.

A total of 138 episodes of the Power Rangers series have included Johnson’s character, with her most recent television appearance occurring in a 2020 episode of Power Rangers Beast Morphers. Johnson has a total of 138 episodes of the Power Rangers franchise to her credit. Despite the fact that she had a cameo appearance in the 2017 film Power Rangers alongside her former co-star Jason David Frank, she did not appear as one of the Power Rangers.

Johnson also appeared in the Disney Channel series Susie Q. In 1997, she acted in NBC’s adaptation of Lois Duncan’s novel Killing Mr. Griffin, and in the film Perfect Body, she played a gymnast who suffers from an eating disorder. In addition, she has been in a number of television series and films.

Johnson also appeared in the 2008 film Without Limits, which was directed by Steven Spielberg. She also appeared in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, in which she reprised her role as Kimberly Hart, as well as in the television series Turbo.

Jennifer Johnson was cast as Julie Emrick in the television series Felicity, which premiered on the WB in September 1998 and was a hit at the time of its release. During the first three seasons of Felicity, she played a recurring part, then she returned as a special guest for the fourth and final season as a guest star.

While in the early 2000s, Johnson starred in a number of films, including Interstate 60, Pursuit of Happiness, and Infested. He also participated in the television film Hard Ground in 2001. She has also appeared as a guest star on a number of television shows, including Spin City and ER. She made her television debut as Stacy Reynolds in the fourth season of The Division, in which she played a supporting role.

The second half of the decade saw her feature in recurrent roles on shows such as Wildfire and What About Brian, and she also appeared in television movies such as Magma: Volcanic Disaster on Syfy and Fatal Trust on Lifetime, among other things. Aside from that, Johnson has appeared in a variety of independent films, such as Veritas, Prince of Truth, and Islander, amongst other things.

In the NBC drama Flashpoint, Johnson played Constable Jules Callaghan, a member of the fictional Strategic Response Unit of the Toronto Police Department, starting in 2008. Johnson has also been in several other television shows. Johnson has now established himself as a regular cast member on the show. She was nominated for a Gemini Award as a consequence of her outstanding performance.

After that, new episodes of the show were broadcast every week until the end of 2012. In 2014, Johnson got a recurring role as Hayley Price in the Universal spy drama series Covert Affairs, following a succession of guest roles on television shows since 2012. Johnson directed and produced two highly acclaimed short films, Bent (2013) and Lines (2014), both of which have received positive reviews (2014).

As her next endeavor, she went on to direct the feature film The Space Between, which was released in 2012. In 2018, she began working on a film with the working titled Tammy’s Always Dying, which will be released later this year. From critics, the film received overwhelmingly excellent reviews, with many praising the performances of Huffman and Phillips in particular. Production on the film is underway, and it will be published as a video-on-demand release on May 1, 2020.

One of her professional associations is with the non-profit organization Film Fatales, which advocates for women’s equality in the entertainment industry. The actress said that she will be directing an episode of Superman & Lois for the show’s second season, which would broadcast in 2021, during a press conference in mid-2020. In addition to the Trans-American Treatment (2001), Imperfect (2005), and Never Broken (2007), Johnson has released three studio albums: The Trans-American Treatment, Imperfect, and Never Broken (2013).

In her capacity as a member of the Amy Jo Johnson Band, she has performed around the greater Los Angeles area. The Cars’ “Since You’ve Gone” was covered by Koishii & Hush in December 2007, and as a result of her participation, the song was released as a single in the United Kingdom. A version of the song appears on the album Souvenirs, which was released in 2008 and bears the same title.

The Voice and The X-Files, among other series, have included some of Johnson’s music in their productions. On Johnson’s recommendation, the producers changed the character’s description to reflect his abilities as a singer and guitarist, rather than a dancer, as he had been previously depicted on the show. So Johnson was offered the opportunity to perform her own song, “Puddle of Grace,” on the radio broadcast in response.

This song was featured on the soundtrack album Felicity Soundtrack (1999), which was released to great acclaim by Hollywood Records and received positive reviews. Seeing as how well the song was received, a bonus performance of another Johnson song, “Clear Blue Day,” was included in the broadcast as a result of the strong reception. ‘Cat in the Snow,’ one of her songs, serves as the theme music for an episode of the television series The Division.

The songs “Dancing In-Between” and “Goodbye” from her debut album were featured in the film Flashpoint, which was released in 2008. “God” was one of her songs from the film Bent, which she sang in the film in 2013. Her song “Lines” was used as the theme song for her 2014 film Lines, which was released in theatres. The song “Cracker Jacks,” which she published in 2017, serves as the theme song for the film The Space Between, which was directed by Paul Greengrass.
